Geography
For Year 7, What is geography about?, Maps and
mapping, Rivers and Floods and Africa have been the
main topics. Students have progressed very well and
have produced some outstanding group and individual
work this year.
The Year 8s have tackled Weather and Climate, Global
Warming, Coasts and Asia as their main topics of
study this year. Highlights were some excellent global
warming debates and coral reef documentaries.
“The study of Geography is about more than memorising
places on a map. It’s about understanding the complexity of
our world, appreciating the diversity of cultures that exist
across continents. And in the end, it’s about using all that
knowledge to help bridge divides and bring people together” –
Barack Obama, former US President.
Volcanoes and Earthquakes,
International Development and
the Middle East are the topics
Year 9 have been grappling with
this year. Best work took the form
of student designed earthquake
proof buildings and visual displays.
Year 10s have taken to their first
year of IGCSE like ducks to water
(see photos). They waded bravely
into the River Silver on Lantau
during their rivers field trip. Other
fieldwork included investigating
environmental quality across a
part of our city.
“Water and air, the two essential fluids on
which all life depends, have become global
garbage cans.” - Jacques Cousteau (French
naval officer, explorer, ecologist, filmmaker,
scientist and photographer)
