Foreword
by the Headmaster
“An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow
confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all
humanity. “ – Martin Luther King, Jr.
When Martin Luther King, Jr. said these words, he was addressing a deeper
issue: the diversity we have as a society. Today, his words are as relevant as
ever. The discussion of an increasingly pressing need to recognize diversity
in society has seized the Western world by storm. Such was the power of
this public conversation that movements on social media were spurred and
entire speeches at the Oscars award ceremony were made; and its influence
has quickly spread on a global scale.
In education, it is crucial for us to teach young people early on that diversity
is not something to be feared, but to be embraced. Our teachers understand
that in diversity there is beauty and in diversity there is strength. Our
young students come into the Primary Division equipped with
different skills, knowledge, and extraordinary talents. They also
come with different characters and different needs in learning. As
educators, we seek not only to address their learner’s diversity,
but also to show them how to play and work together while
appreciating the differences in each individual. In celebrating the
uniqueness of each other, we truly appreciate God’s design.
May God bless you all, and may God bless the
Diocesan Boys’ School.
