Exploring the Lion City
Name of Activity: Singapore English Study Tour 1617
Date: 27 June 2017 to 1 July 2017
Department: English Department
Aim: In order to provide an authentic and language rich learning environment for students to learn
and use English in daily communication, we organized an English Study Tour in Singapore
last summer. With the study tour, students were able to learn about Singapore’s multi-cultural
society and its education system by visiting a local institute and interacting with the students
there. Furthermore, some educational excursions were provided, such as visiting the Gardens
by the Bay, ArtScience Museum, Night Safari and Universal Studio.
Target: 23 S2-S4 students

The most exciting around the city. Another skill I learned
and memorable part of from this activity was that it enhanced
the Singapore trip was the my survival skills to find my way in a
team journey 'Running foreign city.

tour. I really enjoyed this memory as fondly as I do. Singapore is really a beautiful place to visit

only time that I was not supervised by my teachers and tour really hope that our school could organize more study tours to places
guides. Much independence and freedom was earned to like Canada or Australia, so more students could join them and would
explore this beautiful city without their supervision. We were get a chance to enhance their English skills.

to get to the next checkpoint so as to complete the mission.
The mission included interviewing the locals and the tourists
and asking for directions in English in order to navigate our
way around the city.
Speaking with people from other countries was a
big challenge for me. It was so daunting to come up to
strangers and ask for directions. I found that most people
in Singapore were actually quite friendly and helpful.
Therefore, as the challenge continued, I gained more and
more confidence and became comfortable wandering
