The 2016-17 school year has seen heartening progress and increased interest in Chinese learning on the part
of our students. Not only did they perform well in public examinations, but they also involved themselves
actively in Chinese learning events both inside and outside the school.

In the 68 Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival, held from 21 November to 20 December 2016, thirteen of
our students participated in the Mandarin speech competition and achieved meritorious results. Ten students
were awarded certificates of merit and three won certificates of proficiency. In the inter-school Chinese
debate competition hosted by Singpore International School, our team demonstrated depth of thought and
felicity of expression, earning respect and accolades from teachers and students from other schools.
This year a Chinese novel, namely, The Border Town (Biancheng), was included in the Battle of the Books
organized by the English Department. Students from the four houses evinced great passion for the contest,
which they believed was an unforgettable amalgam of independent and collaborative learning, of academic
rigor and competitive conviviality. In the meantime, teachers from the
two departments basked in the success of their collaboration in the
annual schoolwide event.
