First Runner-up The War Against Covid-19

                                                                                                6C Lau Cheuk Long
“The war has begun!” “All units to your position!”
As a white blood cell in the human body, I am responsible for fighting with villains. My team and I have defeated
numerous armies: The SARS, CHICKENPOX, COLD FLU and so on. Yesterday, we got a message from our most reliable
friends, the ear twins. “Attention everyone, today we are going to a new location for a vaccine of COVID-19. Prepare to
fight, guys.” Whenever everyone hears a virus attack, we all start to panic but rush to equip our weapons. However, one of
us acted as cool as a cucumber. He said, “Vaccines are just a practice for us, so when the real virus comes, we remember
how to fight against it. You definitely don't need to be panic.”
Tony, the boy aged 12 we work for, is fond of history. After arriving at the vaccination area, Tony was asking his mum
all about the history of vaccines. “The story of vaccines began with the long history of infectious disease in humans, and
with early uses of smallpox material to provide immunity to that disease. Edward Jenner then used materials from cowpox
pustules to provide protection against smallpox.” When Tony went into the vaccination room, the nurse explained, “The
vaccines can reduce the risk of getting and spreading the COVID-19, which also helps you from getting seriously ill even
if you do get COVID-19.” “Let’s do this!” Tony shouted with joy. Our other friends, Eyes, saw the thin, sharp sting ready to
       inject into Tony’s arm.
We were shocked as COVID-19 went into Tony’s body. We started to shout and held our weapons. However, it was
no use to defeat them. Other cells went to change their weapons, while we panicked and didn’t know what to do. After
some time, we charged again with our other weapons. This time, we finally defeated COVID-19.
You might think it was a fast process, actually, this war took two days! The blood cell that was as cool as a cucumber
was right: After we know how to defeat a vaccine of COVID-19, we will know how to defeat COVID-19!
At last, the nurse said, “Over four million of people in Hong Kong have already received the first dose of COVID-19
vaccination. You will come back to receive the second dose four weeks later. Remember you still need to wear your mask
and keep clean while waiting for durable immunity. Thank you for your participation!” “Wait! I want to ask what about the
forms of COVID?” “…Coronaviruses are named for the crown-like spikes on their surface, first identified in the mid-1960s.
There are four main sub-groupings of coronaviruses, known as alpha, beta, gamma, and delta. Three recent examples of
this are COVID-19, SARS, and MERS (the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome).” “I think that’s enough for today, see you
next time!” Mum said with a smile.
