Title: Oliver Twist
Author: Charles Dickens
Call Number: 823 DIC
Oliver Twist is an English Literature masterpiece, written by Charles Dickens during 1837.
As the title has suggested, the protagonist or the central character of this novel is named Oliver.
He is an orphan who, at a very young age, experienced the cruelty of the world as he grows up.
The poor soul has been treated cruelly in his life and faced many harsh hardships. And just when
everything seemed to be hopeless, he met a few kindhearted people who soon he would call them
family and who will soon treat him as their very own.
Reading Oliver Twist’s story was really heartbreaking. It is hard to imagine this poor boy’s life,
as no one would ever want to experience such unthinkable exploits that he has come across life. It
makes my soul ache when I read about Oliver Twist’s past. But the ending surely has offered relief and
comfort that Oliver never lost his hope even in the harshest times, and just when he was about to lose
his grip, his faith revealed itself to him at last by finding a family that he can call his own, and all that
had done him wrong was given justice. This book made me think deeply about my own family - of how
truly blessed I am and I am sincerely thankful for the blessings. Oh, what would I do without them?
The good moral of the story also teaches us to never lose HOPE and to keep our FAITH alive. In
the darkness of night, there’s the stars that light; after the heaviest rainfall, there’s a rainbow.
“It is because I think so much of warm and sensitive hearts, that I would spare them from being
wounded.”
- Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist
