Space Town Literacy Programme in Key Stage One (P.1- P.2)
In the Space Town Literacy Programme, teachers guide students to
empower themselves with the life-long learning skills necessary to become
self-directed learners. We aim to develop students’ four language skills
as well as other learning skills through this English programme. It also
provides opportunities for formative assessments, which monitors students’
performance within the lessons and e-learning. Additionally, the activities and
tasks within the programme encourage students to develop critical thinking
skills and to improve a whole range of reading strategies. This is my story. I can make a cake.
In daily lessons, students have a lot of opportunities to engage in
different activities. They learn English through reading and fun activities
throughout the year and they are allowed to choose the self-directed
learning activities. The reading activities are embedded into every lesson
and take many forms in order to help the development of different reading
skills. Storytelling, reading aloud, shared reading, guided reading and
independent reading are all covered by the programme. Furthermore, each
unit is contextualized to help memory and recall students’ work towards the
production of a piece of writing, in a closely controlled and monitored process.

writing skills are many and varied. There are also learning-by-doing activities
such as baking a cake in Primary 1 and making porridge in Primary 2.
