I love my school, Buddhist Tai Hung
College!
BTHC was founded in 1969. It is the second
secondary school established by the Hong
Kong Buddhist Association.
The school offers various facilities
for teachers and students. One of my
favourite rooms is ‘Awakening Corner’
(Meditation Room). It is a place where
students can meditate and relax. Thanks
to the school for providing us with this
comfortable environment.
My Kaleidoscopic
School Life
‘Awakening Corner’ is the most Buddhist-
featured facility at school. Many teachers
and students like going there. Practising
meditation can help us reduce stress and
promote mental health. Appropriate
meditation can improve our learning
efficiency and focus on learning. I like
the Meditation Room very much. A series
of meditation courses is implemented
throughout the year to help students
grow mentally. I like the comfortable
and spacious Reading Room which is
convenient for students to borrow books of
different genres. In the campus, the most
effective self-learning equipment is the
computer. The School Library, Computer
Room and Multi-Media Learning Centre
are well equipped with computers. I can
search relevant information online while
doing assignments and projects.
The school organizes different kinds of
extra-curricular activities for students
such as study tours, astronomy camps
and carnivals. By participating in these
activities, we can acquire both subject
and practical knowledge, which allows
us to play a more active role in learning. There are a 50 th Anniversary Commemorative Issue
variety of extra-curricular activities to develop our
potential. For example, there are musical instrument
classes to nurture students’ music talent; and the
school volleyball team to develop students’ healthy
habits for exercise. In Form 4, we have to join a
3-day training camp which aims to develop our
independence, courage and teamwork through
completing several challenges and problem-solving
tasks.
Students’ Corner
We have plenty of opportunities to speak English.
The English Speaking Passport Scheme lets junior
form students converse with teachers and English 83
Ambassadors in an English-rich environment. This
can strengthen our English-speaking confidence.
We can arouse our interest in learning English
too. Thanks to the school for providing us with
such a progressive and open space for learning.
In Form 3, we have to perform English drama.
We have the chance to direct and get involved in
stage performance and backstage work. The drama
performance can develop our acting skills, confidence
in public speaking and teamwork.
All the above performances and activities can develop
students’ talents and abilities in multiple aspects. I
am grateful to BTHC, which is full of warmth and
love. Teachers are kind and patient. They sacrifice
their free time to teach us selflessly. They answer
students’ questions one by one. They usually share
with us their own life experiences and talk to us as
friends.
