Top 10 News Election 2018 (news commentary competition)
Top 10 News Election 2018 is a news commentary competition organized by Hok Yau Club and is divided into junior and senior
secondary sections with the option of writing Chinese and English commentaries. This year, there were more than 3000 participants in
the competition, Chan Wing Hei Phoebus (2H 3) and Lau Ching Yu (1L 7) were awarded the 2nd runner-up prize and 1st place in the
junior section (English). Their commentary topics were "Live-in rule forces domestic workers to be on call 24 hours, court hears" and
"Bus crash reveals drivers’ long working hours" respectively. Meanwhile, in the senior section, Leung Pak Hei Esmond (5J 5) and Wong
Adrian (5C 10) were awarded 3rd runner-up prizes. Lai Man Wai Katherine (5H 14) was awarded
the 1st runner-up prize and Ngai Wing Sze Kitty (5H 17) won 1st place in the senior section. Their
topics were "Land policies striking down housing problems-proper ways of alleviating the heaving
burden of land", "Hong Kong independence", "Should container houses be used to contain our
housing needs" and "Opting out the opt-in system" respectively. Congratulations to Phoebus, Ching
Yu, Esmond, Adrian, Katherine and Kitty!
Mooting and Mock Trial Competition
This year, the Liberal Studies Department sent two teams to join Mooting and Mock Trial Competition organized by Hong Kong
Schools Mooting and Mock Trial Association. One team joined the Chinese division. The team members were 3Y (21) Shen Xinyi,
5C (4) Chui Man Fei Caleb, 5D (22) Yeung Hoi Ling, 5H (3) Koo Ho Man Adwin, 5J (5) Leung Pak Hei, and 5J (22) Tam Ching Yin.
Another team joined the English division. The team members were 5C (3) Cheung Ho Yin, 5C (10) Wong Adrian, 5D (5) Lau Tsz Ho
Jason, 5D (8) Lui Long Yin, 5D (10) Wong Kui Sum, 5H (14) Lai Man Wai Katherine, 5H (17) Ngai Wing Sze, 5J (2) Chan Pak Hin
and 5Y (2) Chan Hei and 5Y (7) Lee Man Him.
Our Chinese team came third in the competition.
5C (4) Chui man Fei Caleb, 5C (10) Wong Adrian and
5J (5) Leung Pak Hei were awarded best advocates in the
knock-out rounds.
