Througout this year, students at KCCIS have made
heartening academic progress and demonstrated increased
engagement in Chinese learning events both in and out of
          school.

                   th
In the 69 Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival, Ethan Leung
(Y7C) carried off the top prize in Solo Verse (F1-F2 Boys),
basking in the glow of being KCCIS’s second (after Angeline
Yu) Mandarin speaking champion in this prestigious inter-
school competiton. Meanwhile, two students were awarded
certificates of proficiency and fourteen others won certificates of merit, with Bernice Tan
(Y7C) and Hillary Gui (Y7C) chalking up the first and second runner-up spots in F1-F2 Girls
Solo Verse and Solo Prose respectively.

This year The Three-Body Problem (Santi), a Hugo-award
winning Chinese science fiction book, was included in the
Battle of the Books organized by the English Department.
Students from the four houses evinced great enthusiasm
for the contest, which they believed was an unforgettable
amalgam of independent and collaborative learning, of
                                          academic rigor and competitive conviviality.

During the Discovery Week in November, the Year 8 students went to the ancient city of
Nanjing, the capital of East China’s Jiangsu (Kiangsu) Province. The visit to the culturally
rich region went a long way toward furthering the students’ knowledge of Chinese
history and enhancing their understanding of Chinese culture.

At the end of 2017, we sadly bid farewell to Ms. Wu, a
dedicated Chinese and TOK teacher who resigned after
two and a half years at KCCIS. She has been loved and
admired for the high degree of professionalism and
undiluted passion with which she carried out her duties.
Ms. Wong took over in January 2018. It was not long
before she walked into the good books of her students.

We will continue to provide necessary guidance to
maximize students’ academic and personal development,
and to cultivate their enthusiasm for Chinese learning
both through formal instruction and by taking learning
          beyond the classroom.
